DOOKUDU CHANGED TELUGU CINEMA BUSINESS STRATEGY!
But amidst all these celebrations, let us not ignore some very important business lessons Dookudu has taught us. Dookudu has shown that the best way to achieve success is to ensure a massive release of the film backed by a marketing and publicity blitzkrieg. When that kind of strategy is employed, the charm and Box Office power of the hero will do the rest. This is precisely what happened with Dookudu.
During the opening weekend, some analysts estimate that approximately 75% – 80% of the functioning theaters in Andhra Pradesh were screening Dookudu. And that grand release was backed up for weeks by a strong, sustained and co-ordinated publicity campaign that built up the hype over the movie. Prince Mahesh Babu’s charm and massive fan following among all sections of the society pulled the crowds to the theaters. And the rest,as they say, is history.
In this day and age, 100 day runs do not matter anymore. It is all about how much money the movie can make in the shortest possible time. Piracy and competing forms of entertainment will dilute any movie’s collections after the first few weeks.
The business tactics of Bollywood films run along similar lines. Let us see if Dookudu’s strategy is emulated in future by all big budgeted Telugu films.

MAHESH BABU: 'DOOKUDU' IS A MIRACLE
Stuck with ‘Pokiri’:Mahesh mentioned that his film ‘Pokiri’ was remade two years ago with Salman Khan and it became a massive hit. But he got stuck to that image and that’s why his later movies didn’t click. So, he decided to take an year off and made his comeback with ‘Dookudu’. He is happy with the response as well.
Down-to-earth nature:
Despite his stardom, Mahesh has been quite down to earth. He maintains that this is due to his ‘regular’ upbringing from his father superstar Krishna. He recalled how they used to travel in autos and kept life as normal as possible. Mahesh admitted that he lost out on one year of school due to his stint as a child artist. His father got worried and advised him to act only when he is older. So Mahesh went back to school.
Publicity & learning:
Mahesh reportedly confessed that in the start, the attention he got from people stressed him out and it took time for him to get used to it and feel relaxed. He adds that the place is amazing as there is opportunity to meet so many people and learn many things. The prince states that he is growing as a human being everyday.
Bollywood:
Mahesh makes it clear that it will take two years for him to step into Bollywood even if he wants it because of his ongoing projects. Currently, he is shooting for ‘The Businessman’ in Mumbai. He added that the response to ‘Dookudu’ is actually a miracle and this has given him more responsibilities. Apparently, the director is keen on doing the Hindi version with Mahesh but the price prefers to focus only on south for now.
Bollywood connection:
Mahesh mentioned that if at all he made his debut in Bollywood, it would be with a proper role and not through some side role. His connection to the circuit is his wife actress Namrata Shirodkar.
Marriage and popularity:
Mahesh stated that his marriage with Namrata didn’t affect his popularity and instead, it made him even more famous. He beamed with pride that after the birth of his son Gautham, his whole perspective changed. The prince beams with pride and mentions that once a person becomes a dad, he becomes a man.

Boxoffice Report: 'Dookudu' mania continues!
Dookudu which broke all records in its first week, continued breaking more records in second week at boxoffice. It collected around 44 Cr worth share, worldwide in two weeks, which is an all time record for Telugu Cinema, thus becoming the All-time 2nd Biggest within in two week itself by crossing previous mega blockbusters Pokiri & Robo full run Shares. Now with NTR’s Oosaravelli receiving average to below average response, we need to see how far Dookudu will reach towards All Time Highest Magadheera in coming weeks to reach to the TOP SLOT.
The film which collected around 31 Cr worth share in first week has managed to collect a second week record share. It set a new second week record in areas like Krishna, Guntur, Uttarandhra , E.Godavari and W.Godavari. In overseas, it collected a record share of 1.6+ Cr in its second week. In USA alone, it collected $ 400K in second week. Dookudu was released in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and South Africa in second week and took record breaking openings. It continued its dominance in Gulf Region even in in its 2nd week.

'Dookudu' Comfortably Beats 'Magadheera'
Ever since the time ‘Dookudu’ released and even before that, the only topic of discussion was whether it has enough to beat the all time best blockbuster ‘Magadheera’. Now, the film has released and it appears that the film is on its way to replace ‘Magadheera’ and set new records. According to reports, the total collections for 14 days in gross are Rs 70 crores. The cine pundits say that in just another 15 days, it can touch Rs 85 crores if the same trend continues. Now, this is without the price of the satellite rights and just box office collection. It was reported earlier that the satellite was given away for Rs 5.25 crores. So, as per the estimation of the producers, the chances of ‘Dookudu’ touching nearly Rs 90 crores look very strong. And if there is any revenue from remake rights then it is considered as plus. Altogether, it will add and who knows it might touch Rs 100 crores, say observers although many are ruling out the possibility.
Secret Behind 'Oosaravelli' Records?
It was stated that ‘Oosaravelli’ collected Rs 15 Cr plus on the first day (Thursday) of its release world wide. It has shown Rs 1.9 Crore as the collection on the first day in USA. But the official distribution sources from USA state that the film collected not more than Rs 40 lakh on the first day. The figure Rs 1.9 Cr was the amount for which the film was bought by distributors in USA but not the collection (!!)
On the other hand, the collections were projected that big to stand as the top-1 in Tollywood history. Counting the amounts collected by advance bookings (till Sunday), they announced the total first day collection worldwide was Rs 15 Cr plus.
It is true that hype matters for the success of the film in some cases. But in long run, this type of fake numbers may not help the success of the film in any way.
'Dookudu' Producers Wish 'Oosaravelli' To Go Hit
Before the release of the film ‘Oosaravelli’ there was this talk that it might affect the collections of ‘Dookudu’ but actually sources say the producers of ‘Dookudu’ wanted ‘Oosaravelli’ also to be a hit. Apparently, ‘Dookudu’ has actually surpassed their expectations in terms of collections and audience response. That’s why they are happy. A close friend of the producers revealed “Anil and his group said that if ‘Oosaravelli’ becomes a hit, it is a good thing for Tollywood. It is not necessary that because ‘Oosaravelli’ is a hit ‘Dookudu’ will not be seen. Public will see both. Earlier, 4-5 films used to come during festivals and they used to see all.” He added “The audience doesn’t make comparisons. If there is more than one film release, they will see the better one first. So, that way there were wholehearted wishes from ‘Dookudu’ producers for ‘Oosaravelli’ to score a hit. And if it scores success, then it will be a satisfying Dussehra for Tollywood.”
Dookudu Becomes fastest movie to collect 50 Crs!!
Dookudu starring Mahesh Babu, is the recent sensation even though another major release Oosaravelli is still in its early days of release. As it is known, the movie is smashing every record in its way and becoming a trendsetter, here is another record in its way!!
Dookudu is reportedly the fastest telugu movie till date to collect over 50crs(not gross but share).
If continued in the same pace trade analysts are assuming the movie will end up collecting a whopping 100 crs just in next month time!!

Prakash Raj To Play Father Role For Mahesh Babu And Venkatesh In SVSC
Pawan Kalyan was supposed to work with Venky but opted out and Mahesh stepped in, now both Venkatesh and Mahesh are quite excited about this Sooraj Barjatya kind of film that is structurally clichéd but treatment wise is laden with emotions. Director Srikant Addala has worked for two years on this script and is advised by producer Dil Raju not to breathe a word to the media but don't worry keep watching this space for more details.

Mahesh Is Tollywood No.1
It has been almost two years since ‘Prince’ Mahesh Babu had a release but he is still the favourite hero from the new generation for most in Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, a survey was conducted by a marketing agency to find which hero was in demand. Most of the new generation heroes were listed including Mahesh Babu. The surveying organization was apparently surveying to identify the favourite actor of the audience, for a famous apparel brand. While there were also a few seniors in that choice for the audience, the survey got some astonishing results. The seniors apparently had no tick marks against them. The youngsters of the new generation had a stiff competition but a few ‘stars’ were very low when compared to Mahesh Babu. Mahesh’s last release was ‘Athidhi’ in 2007. He has been working on a project for a long time now that is expected to see light this year. He has signed a lot of movies already with R R Films for director Surender Reddy and Seenu Vytla. The survey for the apparel brand had found its answer. Mahesh Babu is still the favourite among the audience. Mahesh is currently endorsing soft drink Thums Up, Mobile phone selling chain UniverCell, and hair oil Navratna. Meanwhile Mahesh is in no mood to take a break. He is currently working on his next flick, Puri Jagan directorial "The Business Man", in Mumbai. The movie has completed its second schedule sucessfully and the ongoing Mumbai schedule will continue till Nov 5th. Reportedly, the 1st song in the movie is being filmed today (7/10/2011).
Puri has earlier expressed confidence that he will complete the movie by December and will make it a January release, making it a prime contender in Sankranthi Race.
Box Office Badshah!!
With no prime competitor in race, and only major release Oosaravelli acquiring a bad talk and poor openings(although hyped by fake numbers), Dookudu HAWA is expected to be running in the forthcoming weeks!!
